I LEARNED THE EXPENSIVE WAY
Growing up, I was taught the basics: save and tithe your money. Simple, right? I stuck to this advice faithfully from my first job at 15 until my mid-20s—when my poor money habits came back to bite me HARD. In college and my early 20s, money slipped through my fingers like water. I spent it as fast as I earned it, and before I knew it, I was racking up credit card debt like nobody’s business.
When I made the big leap to move across the country to Texas in 2017, things went from bad to worse. I worked three jobs and still found myself living paycheck to paycheck. The stress was unreal, and my finances were a complete mess.
...AND THEN IT GOT WORSE! UNTIL...
The breaking point came when I couldn’t afford my $793 rent and had to make the humbling call to my mom for help. That moment hit me like a ton of bricks—I was DONE living this way. By 2018, I decided it was time to take control of my finances once and for all. I dove headfirst into learning about money management, even taking a class that completely shifted my perspective. For the first time, I understood how to manage money, tackle debt, and plan for my future.
IT STARTED TO COME TOGETHER
It wasn’t easy, but I got to work. By 2019, I had sold off the things I didn’t need, knocked out $10K of debt, and increased my salary as a Recreation Therapist by $30K. By 2021, I’d paid off over $40K in debt while still enjoying life—traveling to three countries in one year and spending more time with family.
Friends and family started asking me for advice on budgeting and managing money. That’s when it clicked: I could use my journey to help others avoid the same mistakes I made.
And that’s how my mission to empower others through financial literacy was born.
